He was a product of Nelson Minor Soccer, LV Roger’s track team and as part of a local family in the logging industry, a kid who grew up amongst the mountains and lakes right out his backdoor. Back in March, Nelson runner Matti Erickson won men’s 800-metre gold at the NCAA indoor track and field championships. Last November he became the first Canadian student-athlete to sign a name, image and likeness deal with Nike. It’s been a big year for the 22-year old. And the wins keep piling up…on the phone from Eugene, where he is in his second year with the Oregon Ducks.
