Anna Jauncey Art Opening at the Capitol Theatre

Join visual artist Anna Jauncey for the opening of her show at the Capitol Theatre.
Anna is a queer artist based in Nelson, BC, originally from Scotland. Surrounded by strong female creatives in her family, she found artistic inspiration early on. After earning a BA Honours in Fashion Design from the University of the West of England in 2012 and a four years in London’s creative industry, she eventually rediscovered her passion for the arts after relocating to The Kootenays.
Her art reflects the influence of the rugged Scottish Highlands and the expansive Canadian mountains where she now lives and is inspired by the Colourfield and Modern Art movements. Shapes, plants, and animals symbolize thoughts or experiences, while color depicts mood and energy.
Driven by social justice causes and her personal experience with mental health, Anna recognizes her privilege as a white, middle-class woman and uses her art to engage her peers in meaningful conversations on these topics. She aims to foster dialogue and promote reflection asking others to consider their roles and experiences within these issues.
