Since her arrival six years ago, poet Zaynab Mohammed has become a cultural figure on the streets of Nelson, B.C. Many know her for creating on-the-spot poems on Baker Street, bringing inspiration to life from behind her typewriter.
Now, Mohammed is one of four Kootenay-based artists invited to the Civic Theatre’s inaugural artist-in-residence program. This year, she embarks on a journey to develop a theory about listening.
She talks about the desire to be heard, working solo and her gratitude for the residency.
