NELSON, B.C–Mathieu Nolet, the second officer caught in the fatal avalanche in Kaslo on January 9, has died in a Kelowna hospital, a media release from the City of Nelson said.
The 28-year-old Nelson police officer had worked with the department for just over a year when he sustained serious injuries in the avalanche, that also killed Constable Wade Tittemore. He was treated in the Trail hospital ICU, but was later transferred to Kelowna.
“It is hard to fully express the sadness we are feeling here,” said Nelson Police Chief Donovan Fisher in a statement. “The memorial for Constable Tittemore was this past week, and now we’ve lost a second officer and friend. It is devastating.”
