In 1969, John Bergenske moved to the very raw environs of the Purcell Mountains in search of a wild place to live. Along with late great mountaineer and conservationist Art Towmey, Bergenske built a couple of log cabins and embarked on a life filled with mountain adventure.
A half century later, the wilds of the Kootenays, and all of BC, have drastically changed.
Bergenske is spearheading a conservation coalition that brings together diverse stakeholders in the environmental conservation world, and he joined Kootenay Morning on May 19 to chat a bit about it.
