Writing. Rewriting. The editor. The agent. The publisher. The road tour. Aftermath revelations.

Trevor Owen: "You'd be amazed at how many students in highschools have written novels, even in longhand,
and no one knows until the discussion begins. "

Trevor Owen of WIER

Trevor Owen started Writers in Electronic Residence (WIER) in 1988. WIER is an arts initiative, in that writers are paid for their work. Classes are grouped into organizational units, called Electronic Literary Salons, so that one instructor works with six geographically disparate classes from across the country and material is posted online for that organizational unit to see. WIER is a pan-Canadian program.

Trevor Owen: “It’s that we are geographically disparate that allows us to see ourselves reflected in the work, ideas, aspirations, dreams of others, and that the language that we summon to express those ideas is strongly located in where we’re from.”

B.C. writers who have participated include Susan Musgrave, Lorna Crozier, Patrick Lane, Linda Rogers and Marilyn Bowering.
