This position runs 8 weeks for 30 hours per week, though some weeks may be more, some less depending on what festivals are happening. Compensation is $14.00 per hour. The approximate start date is June 11, 2018.
The Summer Outreach and Promotions Representative will work closely with the Kootenay Co-op Radio Outreach Coordinator to perform a range of duties around the station. To be eligible for this position, the candidate must be a full-time student returning to full-time studies in September, between 15 and 30 years of age, and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected refugee.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND TERMS
The Summer Outreach and Promotions Representative will be responsible for expanding Kootenay Co-op Radio’s community connections by promoting our work at festivals and performances throughout the summer.
The Summer Outreach and Promotions Representative will learn fundamental technical and radio journalism skills, and gain experience in technical, creative, and journalistic aspects of creating radio features.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate, attend and manage volunteer tabling opportunities at community events and festivals
- Train and supervise several young people to do streeter interviews on Canada Day 2018 in Nelson (candidate must be available July 1st and 2nd)
- Assist with the creation of promotional materials, on-air promos and ads, press releases, and social media marketing
- Capture voices from the community, and prepare, edit, and file audio reports for broadcast and promotional purposes
- Help planning a Kootenay Co-op Radio volunteer party
- Other duties as directed by Kootenay Co-op Radio staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, reliable with a strong work ethic
- Good understanding of promotions, and event planning
- Strong time management, and organizational skills
- Ability to engage and supervise young volunteers
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with a minimum of supervision
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively
- Desire to learn new technical skills, including sound recording and sound editing techniques
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials of at least 15 kg
- Excellent computer proficiency
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Willingness to submit to a criminal record check (required when working with youth)
ASSETS (NOT REQUIRED):
- Community radio or independent media experience or interest
- Experience working with and coordinating volunteers
- Bilingual French/English
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This 8 week, 30 hrs/wk position (with some variability of hours from week to week) is subsidized by the government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program. Hourly wage: $14.00/hr, anticipated start date of June 11, 2018. The Summer Outreach and Promotions Representative will work closely with the Kootenay Co-op Radio Outreach Coordinator.
