CEO and Founder Jeff Pensiero spoke on Kootenay Morning Wednesday, saying the operation wanted to make the call as early as possible to allow the lodge’s tight knit staff to find alternative work for the winter and praised the local community.
Baldface is amongst the first mechanized operations in BC to make the decision to pull the plug on the season.
“What I don’t see is how we can operate bringing 80 people up to a backcountry ski lodge from various places, and staff in this small community exposed to those people,” said Pensiero.
“Exposing those people seems a little reckless to me without more directives from public health.”
Speaking to KCR Pensiero said he wanted to make the call as early as possible to allow his tight knit staff to find alternative work for the winter and praised the local community. Baldface employs about 100 people in the greater Nelson area and contributes millions to the local economy.
“We’ll get through it, the community will get through it,” Pensiero told KCR.
Pensiero also touched on the possibility of looking at ski touring packages and possible alternative revenue streams for the winter.
