Kootenay Co-op Radio Listeners Are Your Customers
Since 1999, member-owned and operated Kootenay Co-op Radio (CJLY) has served up eclectic music programming and spoken word shows exploring local issues, opinions, and events happening in our community.
With over 80 hours of original programming created by our passionate team of volunteers hosts each week, KCR is the destination for 1000s of local listeners looking for an authentic Kootenay experience.
Who Is Listening?
With transmitters in Nelson (93.5 FM), Crawford Bay (96.5 FM), New Denver (107.5 FM), and the Slocan Valley (101.5 FM) KCR reaches a potential audience of over 20,000 people. Some radio facts:
- 93% of people 6+ years tune into radio at least once per week.
- 20% of radio listeners include community radio, meaning around 4000 tune into KCR.
Can we measure this? Not directly. However, KCR has a considerable active following on social media that indicates 4000 listeners is not far off, and may even be on the conservative side.
According to a 2017 survey by the National Campus and Community Radio Association, listeners to community radio are more likely to be college and/or university educated and have annual household incomes of more than $50,000. In fact, the higher their income, the more likely they are to tune into community radio stations like KCR.
Why Work With KCR?
When you become a KCR sponsor, you not only reach an audience of 4000+ listeners, you are telling those people that, like them, you value the importance of community radio. KCR’s audience is so passionate that 3100 are lifetime members of KCR, and 220 of them are active members, meaning they donate $60 or more per year to the station annually.
Businesses that work with KCR demonstrate their brand’s values to listeners who understand the importance of building a tightly knit community with an economy supported by people who shop locally.
How Does Sponsorship Work?
When you sign on for a minimum 3-month commitment, we create a custom radio spot for you with music and script to be aired at the top of the hour, and repeated a minimum of 8 times a month.
If you choose to sponsor a specific show, the host will include two additional LIVE on-air mentions of your business during the show.
We can also talk about adding your business to our KCR Friendship Card program, which gives discounts to KCR members at your business. This is a great way to support KCR while building customer loyalty with your brand.
