Valhalla Wilderness Society, established in 1975, says proposed clear cuts will push mountain caribou “off the face of the planet”

Interior BC environmentalists are sounding the alarm over BC Timber Sales’ plans to log within a few hundred metres of known mountain caribou habitat north of Kootenay Lake.

There are only 26 caribou left in the severely endangered Central Selkirk mountain caribou herd.

Valhalla Wilderness Society co- founder Craig Pettitt has been with the group from its start, helping found the group in 1975.

The organization has won and lost some big battles, and Pettitt has shared the great green fight with some heavyweight names on the modern day Canadian environmental stage.

He spoke with Nelson station CJLY’s current affairs show, Kootenay Morning, Wednesday.
