As many of us know, the City of Grand Forks has faced an onslaught of destructive floods.
New science has revealed that the root cause of the floods lies hundreds of kilometres upstream, where timber companies have logged vast swaths of the surrounding watersheds.
UBC hydrologist and engineer Dr. Younes Alila is an expert on the new clearcut science.
He also the main character in a documentary on the Grand Forks floods called Trouble in the Headwaters, which is being screened Saturday, Sept 6 at by the West Kootenay Watershed Collaborative’s Science Pub series. Dr. Alila joins us today.
