The project known as 'Revival' is a creative outpouring by folk artist Ru Rose. Revival showcases a deeply sincere full length conceptual debut album of 12 original sacred folk songs recorded Live-Off-The-Forest-Floor in the mountains of the unceded and ancestral territories of the Sinixt and Ktunaxa nations, also known as the Kootenays of British Columbia. Interwoven with the songs of the album is a series of 12 intricate paintings created with hand-made inks, dyes and paints.
With deep gratitude for the support of Creative BC and the Province of British Columbia in making this creation possible
----------
More About the Artist / Album:
Ru Rose sings, catches songs, and plays acoustic guitar, shruti box, and native drum to accompany her voice within the Sinixt tum-ula7xw of British Columbia. She is a devoted mother to a son & daughter, an off-grid mountain homesteader, an intricate esoteric artist, a contemplative writer of existential seasonal musings, and a re-wilding Creatrix inspired by growing regenerative culture. Ru shares her intimate journey of creating, homesteading, and cyclical living as a woman and mother upon a mountain with community on Patreon.
With love for the Creative and the rhythms of the seasons, and life as ceremony, the album ‘Revival’ was recorded outdoors live-off-the-forest-floor to the tuning of 432Hz. With each song of the album recorded, Ru was either pregnant or had her infant daughter sleeping upon her. Her devoted partner Kai Cabodyna helped hold the fruition with sound recording, videography, instrumentation of drum, bass, and banjo, and holding roles of father and partner. Their talented son would add steadiness with a drum and the sweetness of his voice, while musical friends would accompany this muse upon violin, native flute, strings and support vocals.. as well as the birds, insects, squirrels and elementals weaving in their magic of the moment.
The songs that Ru has midwifed into this world are a prayer for this Earth, they hold her grief and her praise and encompass the grounded and initiatory journey of building a house and homestead from the ground up. The songs of Ru Rose are a precious treasure, a somatic experience and call to be shared for the future generations to come. Her haunting, quivering, mountain-folk voice and visionary lyrics call you to remember, and to come home to this sacred Earth.

The Mosquitos – New Absurdist Theatre

"Things are changing rather quickly. We no longer share a reality".

A group of old friends get together for a dinner party, while rumours of an unimaginable change swirl around them. How will they face total transformation?

An absurd comedy of manners with an existential heart, The Mosquitos is original new theatre written and directed by Slocan Valley playwright Marya Folinsbee. With equal parts humour and pathos, The Mosquitos reconsiders our place in the ecosystem, asking;
How do we create a coherent life together when we understand the world so differently?

A meditation on politics, relationships, (mis)information and the role of art in making meaning, The Mosquitos is inspired by absurdist classics like Eugene Ionesco's Rhinoceros and Samuel Beckett's Happy Days (and, by life in these times).

This world premiere features a talented ensemble of local performers and artistic team:

Written and Directed by Marya Folinsbee

Featuring Performances by:

Art & Ecology Book Study

We are excited to offer a 5 week Art & Ecology course that will provide an opportunity for discussion, reflective writing, and art-making to critically examine the present and inspire the process of imagining and eventually realizing better futures. What we can create begins with what we can imagine.

Co-facilitated by NMAG and the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute, the course will run on Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm, April 3 to May 1, 2025, at NMAG. There will be required readings each week from the collection of essays, An Ecotopian Lexicon.

Registration fee includes a copy of the book, An Ecotopian Lexicon, a collaborative volume of engaging essays that offer new terms and concepts to inspire responses and alternatives to our current social and ecological trajectory.

The content and readings are suited for adult learners. Maximum registration of 10 participants. Register here.  Course cost is $40+GST for members, and $50+GST for non-members. Sign up for a Museum membership online or in person at the Front Desk.
