The Kaslo Block Party will feature a mix of ticketed and free events, with funds raised directly supporting the artists and the Kaslo Jazz Etc. Society's fundraising efforts for reimagining future festivals.
This is a community-wide celebration with a variety of venues showcasing artists on a first-come, first-served cover charge or ticketed basis.
We are absolutely thrilled to launch the Kaslo Block Party official music lineup, packed with incredible, beloved talent that promises to bring our community together for a weekend to celebrate music and our vibrant village. In tandem with the lineup release, tickets are now officially on sale for our limited fundraising events, which will directly support the return of the Kaslo Jazz Festival in 2027 and keep the stage afloat. To make sure you don’t miss a single beat, we’ve put together a list that highlights all the amazing musical activities and local happenings taking place throughout the village. The Great Kokanee Escape
Aligned with the emergence of Kokanee Fry in the spring, The Great Kokanee Escape is a family-friendly 2 km, 4 km or 6 km run/walk that brings the community together to learn about and support shore-spawning Kokanee salmon in Kootenay Lake. Participants move through fun, interactive “challenge stations” that mirror the real obstacles Kokanee fry face after hatching — from fluctuating lake levels to predators and climate stressors.
We’re excited for this event to become an annual fundraiser supporting Friends of Kootenay Lake and the stewardship work we do.
Participants can form fundraising teams, spark a little friendly competition, and invite friends or colleagues to contribute—even just the cost of a coffee makes a difference. Top fundraisers will receive prizes, including limited-edition Kokanee Escape 2026 baseball caps designed locally by Shamara at The Boonies Magazine.

Get ready for an unforgettable day featuring gourmet vegan cuisine (lunch and/or dinner), live DJ sets and family-friendly fun—all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Procter, at the stunning new venue: Kootenay Lake Village. This event will also serve as a rehearsal for the revelfest.dance West Kootenay community, making it a truly special occasion. There is plenty of space for camping, including tent trailers. Lost Buildings with Greg Nesteroff
While Nelson is well known for its many heritage buildings, it has also lost many to fire and demolition. Local historian and author Greg Nesteroff visits the Nelson Museum on Sunday, February 23 at 1pm to present a fascinating slideshow that will look at 40 such structures and their stories, from the opera house to the Strathcona Hotel to the Kerr Apartments.
To celebrate Heritage Week (February 17-23) this presentation is free and open to the public. Admission to the Nelson Museum is also by donation all week.

lovely village in British Columbia's West Kootenay region, surrounded by stunning nature.
To the east looms the Purcell Range, to the west, the Selkirks. Situated on an alluvial peninsula, lower Kaslo juts into fjord-like Kootenay Lake, pointing like an arrow toward the Purcells. The town is flanked on the north by Kaslo Bay, the largest inlet on the lake, and to the south by the Kaslo River.
The parcel of land on the immediate southern bank of the river, where it flows into the lake, is known by locals as South Beach. It's prized for its expansive beachfront with beautiful lake and mountains views, it's flatness (a rarity in a part of the world that is far more up & down than level), and its proximity to Kaslo.
A good portion of South Beach is privately held. The owner has signalled a desire to turn much of it into a trailer park — a proposal many in the village find alarming.
Like so many rural communities, Kaslo suffers from an acute lack of affordable — never mind innovative — housing. It also struggles, as do most small mountain towns these days once reliant on either long-gone or dwindling extractive industries, to create new, well-paid jobs for locals, shore up its tax base, and generally, to create new economic opportunities for the town and region.
The trick is how best to do that, in a way that offers local young people a chance for more-then-decent jobs, pays attention to rapidly emerging 21st century challenges, supports existing small businesses — and does all that without paving Paradise.
Could a South Beach trailer park be part of the answer for Kaslo? Or....
