BROTHER MICHEAL

The 70s at seven. That’s something you will have heard on KCR for almost 15 years. Brother Micheal is a staple of the KCR community. The backbone of 308A Hall St. And the voice behind the mic bringing you the best from the decade that came to define a generation. Nixon, Watergate, Afros, Jimmy Carter, Bellbottoms, Iran/Contra, Maggy Thatcher, Foghat blaring in a 240Z. Those are some of the memories that you’ll evoke listening to Brother Micheal’s show, where you can expect to hear everything from the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd to the Jackson Five, the best of Motown, George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, ABBA, Dolly Parton and Gram Parsons.

In partnership with the Nicole Purvis feature spotlights that have been airing Wednesday mornings on #kootenaymorning – we’ve decided to showcase some of the amazing people who make KCR what it is. Below find a quick Q+A with some of the people behind the mic who make CJLY what it is, and what it has been for 20 years.

FLASHBACK SEVENTIES: Q + A

When did you first get involved with KCR and what keeps you on the air?

When considering moving to Nelson from Oregon, I listened to KCR online – to help determine if the community would be a good match.  The ‘Nelson before Nine’ show convinced me YES.  I started DJing my first year – 2008.  The great volunteers and listeners keep me on the air.

What was your inspiration for Flashback Seventies?

The music of the 70s remains some of the best recordings ever!
