Here’s a stat for you — If you were to take all the mountain bike trails in and around Nelson and lay them from end to end, you’d have one long trail reaching from here to Osoyoos.
Consider that most of those trails are hand made, and many by volunteers. A lot of the trails are on public lands, but not all. In fact, some of the most used trails are up on Nelson’s Mountain Station neighbourhood, and much of that land is privately owned, and currently in the midst of being logged.
There’s other single track that’ll be closed for logging soon too. The work comes as the pandemic is slowly easing, and trails are busier than ever. Nelson Cycling Club spokesperson Deb MacKillop stopped by Kootenay Morning on May 31 to fill our listeners in.
