Nelson has often been touted as one of Canada’s “best small arts towns.” And last Friday evening marked the opening of the city’s 38th ArtWalk, an annual celebration of art and culture that takes place at businesses and galleries throughout downtown and beyond. With the opportunity to see visual arts, sculpture, music, performances and more, artists and “ArtWalkers” flooded the streets despite the rainy weather.

Local Journalism Initiative reporter Jaime Frederick ventured out onto bustling Baker Street to see what folks were thinking about the city’s unique approach to arts and culture. Here’s what he found:
