2023 Oscar Nominated Shorts – Animation

February 28 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the HorseDirected by Peter Baynton and Charlie Macksey, this animated short follows a boy, a mole, a fox, and a horse as they create an unexpected friendship, and travel together in the boy’s search for a home. Adapted by screenwriter Jon Crook from Mackesy’s book of the same name, the film’s storylike animation is exceptionally charming.

The Flying Sailor: Written and directed by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby, this animated short follows a sailor’s unexpected voyage. Inspired by true events, this highly anticipated short takes a look at the effects of a near-death experience.

Ice Merchants: João Gonzalez’s and Bruno Caetano’s animated short film is a family drama about loss and family connections as we follow a father and son’s daring ice-delivery method. Set to a riveting score and a beautifully muted color pallet, this animated short film will send a chill through your bones.

My Year of Dicks: Pamela Ribon’s animated short is a genre-bending comedy that follows a fifteen-year-olds journey to lose her virginity in ‘90s Houston, Texas. This short pulls no punches as it examines sexual awakening through a female-forward perspective.

An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It: Lachlan Pendragon’s stop-motion film about a young telemarketer who meets a talking ostrich takes a strange turn when the ostrich tells him that the world is fake. The bizarre Australian short is a surreal look at the corporate world.
