Learning from the Land: A journalist’s reflection on place-based storytelling with Duncan McCue

presented by the Mir Centre for Peace at Selkirk College
Duncan McCue is a much-loved journalist, author, professor and member of the Georgina Island First Nation in Ontario. For 25 years, he worked with CBC News, both as the host of Cross-Country Checkup and as a regular correspondent for The National. He was also the driving force behind “Kuper Island,” an award-winning, eight-part podcast series on residential schools.
In this Mir Lecture, he will share his coming-of-age story about spending a year on a trapline in Northern Quebec when he was 17, the basis of his memoir, The Shoe Boy and the work he is currently doing at Carleton University in Ottawa to develop a new Indigenous journalism program that incorporates land-based learning.
We are excited to welcome him back to the Kootenays!
This event is generously sponsored by the Selkirk College Faculty Association (SCFA).
