NELSON RALLY // HANDS OFF OLD GROWTH // Join the Province-Wide Day of Action!!!
🌲 HANDS OFF OLD GROWTH RALLY — NELSON 🌲
[Sunday, October 4, 2026 | 2 – 4 PM]
📍 Nelson City Hall → MLA Brittny Anderson’s office → Baker Street → City Hall 📍
_______________
When it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
As the B.C. legislature returns, communities across the province are taking to the streets to demand real action on old growth, biodiversity and climate.
Join us at Nelson City Hall at 2 PM for a grassroots rally featuring Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones, longtime forest defender and powerful voice of the Fairy Creek movement, the largest civil disobedience movement in Canadian history.
We’ll then march together through downtown to MLA Brittny Anderson’s office, continue the rally along Baker Street, and return to City Hall to close the event with music and dance by Greater Groove.
(In solidarity with the Victoria Rally at BC legislature happening the same day)
_______________
The latest UN climate science warns that the world is on track to exceed 1.5°C of warming in the coming years. Every fraction matters.
B.C.’s remaining old-growth and primary forests are more than big trees. They store carbon, protect watersheds, support biodiversity and sustain the living systems we depend on.
They are climate infrastructure. They are home. And they are disappearing.
After years of promises, we need more than another plan or consultation. We need meaningful action:
🌲 Implement all 14 recommendations of the 2020 Old Growth Strategic Review.
🦉 Finalize and enact the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health Law, with the framework stalled since 2023.
đź’§ Protect watersheds and drinking water by putting ecosystem services at the centre of forest management.
🌎 Make 30-by-30 meaningful. Protect old-growth and primary forests, not just cutblocks, ice and rock.
✊ Support Indigenous-led conservation and provide the infrastructure that empowers Indigenous leaders to protect lands, waters and biodiversity.
🌳 Permanently protect the forests that remain. No more delays, loopholes or indefinite deferrals.
_______________
This is a grassroots action. You don’t need to be an activist or belong to an organization. If you care about these forests, watersheds and communities, come stand with us.
And because resistance is also about community, connection and celebration, we’ll close the rally with music and dance from Greater Groove. Come raise your voice, move your body and celebrate the community we’re building together.
Bring your friends. Bring your signs. Bring your voice.
