Trash to Treasure: Community Art-Making Event
About the Event
Join us for a hands-on, eco-inspired art experience where creativity meets sustainability. R.A.D. Rhythm, Art and Dance Society and Pharatree Learning Centre invite artists, families, and curious creators of all ages to transform discarded materials into stunning works of art. This special session will focus on making trash flowers and other decorations from plastic bags and other discarded items — proving that beauty can bloom from the most unexpected places.
Why We’re Doing This
Every year, tons of reusable materials end up in landfills. This event is our way of showing that what we throw away still has value — not just as resources, but as inspiration. By reimagining trash as art, we spark conversations about waste, creativity, and the future of our environment.
What to Expect
- Guided Workshop – Facilitated by R.A.D. Society member artists, you’ll learn techniques for turning plastic, paper, and other scraps into unique flowers and decorative pieces.
- Open Creation Zone – Bring your own “clean trash” or use our provided materials to create freely.
- Community Showcase – Display your finished piece on the stage at the 4th annual Haute Trash show on May 16, 7pm at the Capitol Theatre.
- Family-Friendly Fun – All ages welcome, with activities that inspire creativity and environmental awareness.
What to Bring
- Clean, safe recyclable materials (plastic bags, bottles, tin cans, cardboard, fabric scraps, etc.)
- Your creativity and willingness to experiment
- An apron or clothes you don’t mind getting messy
