Ru Rose is a woman, her life is her art, and her art is born from the homestead.
Ru sings, catches songs, and plays acoustic guitar, shruti box, and native drum to accompany her voice within the Sinixt təmxʷúlaʔxʷ of British Columbia. She is a devoted mother to a son & daughter, an off-grid mountain homesteader, an intricate esoteric artist, a contemplative writer of seasonal musings, and a re-wilding Creatrix inspired by growing regenerative culture. In Spring 2025, Ru Rose released her debut album ‘Revival’ with the support of Creative BC and the Province of British Columbia. The creative outpouring of ‘Revival’ features a deeply sincere conceptual debut album of 12 original Spirit-Folk songs recorded live-off-the-forest-floor in the mountains of the Kootenays of British Columbia. Interwoven with the songs of the album is a series of 12 intricate paintings, one for each song, created with hand-made inks, dyes and paints made from plants, minerals, and crushed blackened bones. The songs of Ru are a precious treasure, a somatic experience, and call to be shared for the future generations to come. Her haunting, quivering, mountain-folk voice and visionary lyrics are a call to remember what was once lost, and to return to our inherent connection to the Land.
This past weekend of April, Ru Rose received the award for Album Artwork of the Year with the Canadian Folk Music Awards. This was the very first year that Album Artwork was recognized as an awarded category. Ru Rose held a deep intimacy with the artwork for the spirit-folk album ‘Revival’ as she was wearing hats as visual artist, singer/songwriter, and producer of the album. The artwork and music of Ru Rose are created from a place-based, chop wood and haul water way of life. Her message is one of connection to the natural world – and the recognition of her work within Canadian Folk Music is now a testament that in a fast-paced world with much art & music being produced with AI – that slow-living and hand-made are not dead and gone, but instead longed for, sought after, and now awarded.
Ru Rose will be sharing and showcasing her artwork this year at The Kootenay Wellness Festival at the Vallican Whole June 12-14th, and Harmony Festival in Slocan, BC before she begins a regional tour at a handful of Women’s festivals around BC and Alberta.
