The Mosquitos – New Absurdist Theatre

"Things are changing rather quickly. We no longer share a reality".

A group of old friends get together for a dinner party, while rumours of an unimaginable change swirl around them. How will they face total transformation?

An absurd comedy of manners with an existential heart, The Mosquitos is original new theatre written and directed by Slocan Valley playwright Marya Folinsbee. With equal parts humour and pathos, The Mosquitos reconsiders our place in the ecosystem, asking;
How do we create a coherent life together when we understand the world so differently?

A meditation on politics, relationships, (mis)information and the role of art in making meaning, The Mosquitos is inspired by absurdist classics like Eugene Ionesco's Rhinoceros and Samuel Beckett's Happy Days (and, by life in these times).

This world premiere features a talented ensemble of local performers and artistic team:

Written and Directed by Marya Folinsbee

Featuring Performances by:
Emily Ryan
Kozmo Sammartino

Karmelle Spence-Sing

SROAMazing Race

Time Travelers Unite for the SROAMazing Race at Whitewater

NELSON—Dig out the vintage onesies, neon windbreakers and Y2K tracksuits, Whitewater Ski Resort is taking a trip back in time for the annual SROAMazing Race.

Hosted by students in the Ski Resort Operations & Management (SROAM) Program at Selkirk College, the SROAMazing Race will take place on March 21 at Whitewater Ski Resort, bringing together teams of four competitors for an afternoon of fun on the mountain. Whether you’re a family looking for a day filled with adventures or a group of friends ready to compete, the retro-themed race is filled with exciting challenges and awesome prizes.

The event starts with registration at 12 pm at the Whitewater base area, followed by the race start at 1 pm. Teams will compete until 3 pm, finishing the day with prizes and a raffle at 3:30 pm.

“The SROAMazing Race is all about having fun, getting creative and bringing people together,” says Ben Utterly, a first-year student in the SROAM Program. “And let’s be honest, it’s the perfect excuse to bring back some iconic fashion trends.”

Based out of the Tenth Street Campus in Nelson, the two-year SROAM Program covers all aspects of ski resort operations, providing learners a unique blend of management skills and industry knowledge to prepare graduates for lasting leadership roles. The only program of its kind in Canada, since 1980 it has been a vital training ground for the outdoor industry.

For this year’s annual event, teams of four will embark on a journey across Whitewater terrain, solving clues, completing tasks and overcoming challenges. Each checkpoint will test a different set of skills, from teamwork to puzzle-solving. Categories for prizes include first to cross the finish line, best costumes and luckiest teams.

“This is more than just a race, it’s a community gathering where everyone can embrace the fun and celebrate ski culture in a unique way,” says event organizer and SROAM first-year student Carson Field. “We can't wait to see participants dive into the theme, push their limits and carve through the snow.”

Pre-register for the event by visiting the SROAMazing Race Facebook page or emailing rmitz@selkirk.ca. If you pre-register for the race by March 18 the cost is $10 per person and registration on the day of the event is $15 per person. All funds being raised from the event will be donated to the Team Giver Foundation, supporting the youth in the winter sports community.

"HYPROV: Improv Under Hypnosis" starring comedian Colin Mochrie and Hypnotist Asad Mecci

The City of Trail and Trail Arts Council co-present Silver City Day's
"HYPROV: Improv Under Hypnosis" starring Colin Mochrie (of Whose Line Is It Anyway?) and Asad Mecci (World Renowned Hypnotist)

HYPROV (pronounced hip-rawv) is coming to Trail after 100 cities toured, a 70-show run Off Broadway in New York City and a six month residency in Las Vegas!!
HYPROV is "hilarious and fascinating'' (says Time Out New York) and is "catnip for those who relish spontaneity and informality," (The Wall Street Journal). The New Yorker says, "say yes to HYPROV,"!

The 90-minute live show combines hypnosis and improv - two art forms that have mystified and entertained fans, skeptics and everyone in between worldwide - for a totally unique comedy experience that The Times of London declared "a celebration of the human imagination." Your evening begins with World Renowned Hypnotist, Asad Mecci welcoming 20 volunteers* on stage to be hypnotized.

The most receptive to hypnosis then join Colin Mochrie (Whose Line is it, Anyway?) to improvise the rest of the show, while hypnotized. In the hands of two experts, and solely crafted from the volunteers' uninhibited, unconscious minds and audience suggestions, each show is an entirely original and completely unforgettable theatrical experience. Whether in the audience or on stage performing, get ready to have the time of your life!!
