Mortal Morsels
Mortal Morsels
Lunch with the end in mind.
What if...thinking about death didn’t feel heavy, but clarifying?
Mortal Morsels is a lunch-based workshop series that uses mortality as a lens to help you get honest about how you want to live, and turn that clarity into practical next steps.
It isn’t doom-and-gloom. It’s thoughtful, a little irreverent, and surprisingly energizing.
This space is for the death-curious, the meaning-seekers, and the quietly overwhelmed.
It lends itself especially to:
- Those who feel our systems leaves little room for meaning.
- People navigating transitions such as career, relationship, or identity shifts.
- Practical planners who want both reflection and real-world follow-through.
You could just Google “how to make a will”, or "what now"?
But, Google will only tell you what to do.
It won’t help you figure out why it matters to you.
Mortal Morsels will connect the logistics to your life.
You’ll have space to:
- Reflect on what matters to you.
- Talk openly about mortality.
- Begin practical steps like wills, directives, conversations, and legacy pieces.
Mortal Morsels will be offered as a series of three sessions across the year, each exploring a different part of the life–death relationship:
Pick on May 2, 2026
Rebirth & recalibration.
Looking inward. Honouring what has shaped you.
Prepare on September 26, 2026
Loving conversations & practical power.
Laying the groundwork for when you’re gone.
Pass on January 30, 2027
Grief & legacy.
Living with what we’ve lost and considering what we leave behind.
You’re welcome to attend one, two, or all three.
Each session will run 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
Lunch will be generously sponsored by Thompson Funeral Service.
Sessions will be limited to 20 participants to keep our space thoughtful and conversational.
Location: TBA
Cost: $40 per session, or $100 for all three

The Great Kokanee Escape
Aligned with the emergence of Kokanee Fry in the spring, The Great Kokanee Escape is a family-friendly 2 km, 4 km or 6 km run/walk that brings the community together to learn about and support shore-spawning Kokanee salmon in Kootenay Lake. Participants move through fun, interactive “challenge stations” that mirror the real obstacles Kokanee fry face after hatching — from fluctuating lake levels to predators and climate stressors.
We’re excited for this event to become an annual fundraiser supporting Friends of Kootenay Lake and the stewardship work we do.
Participants can form fundraising teams, spark a little friendly competition, and invite friends or colleagues to contribute—even just the cost of a coffee makes a difference. Top fundraisers will receive prizes, including limited-edition Kokanee Escape 2026 baseball caps designed locally by Shamara at The Boonies Magazine.
