KCR LIVE!
A live music experience from the Kootenays!
Launched for the Fall 2021 / Winter 2022 season, KCR LIVE! was an hour-long show that hosted live music and interviews, in the KCR studio, from all genres of music, and spoken word too. The program aimed to create greater public awareness of emerging and established artists in the West Kootenay communities, region, and beyond.
It ran live Wednesdays at 6 p.m. with repeats Fridays at 6 p.m. A 30-minute highlight edition of each performance airs Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m.
“The show aims to provide an intimate and authentic experience,” said program coordinator Amélie Sauquet, “we want to showcase artists’ styles and personalities. It’s meant to be quite personal and a way to build a connection between the artist and the audience.”
The KCR LIVE! line up included international-calibre performances. Fifteen-time Juno Award-Nominated Canadian artists Elizabeth Shepherd and Michael Occhipinti have made appearances. So too has Nelson’s new resident Maddie Storvold, the 2019 winner of CTV’s The Launch.
On December 1, KCR LIVE! was dedicated to the Selkirk College Music Program. Three students — Evans Daybell-Chambers, Sapphire Guthrie and Grace Clark along with instructor Melody Diachun — stopped by the studio for a very unique performance.
“It was a very valuable experience for these young musicians to perform and be interviewed on live radio,” says Diachun. “It was also a great opportunity for the music program and college to connect with the community. This has been a challenge these past many months. This show is a great thing for the Kootenays.”
KCR wishes to acknowledge the generous support of the Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC)
